Replaces original part A-15430 and A-18159
Tangles presents here a replacement for the Bally/Williams 10-opto board. Time has not been kind to these boards. The original boards typically fail from over temperature; the heat being generated by the 10 large resistors on the board.
The TPP-1021 replacement board addresses this issue through a few design changes. Most notably
- The power resistors get extra ventilation holes
- The power resistors are spaced out compared to original.
- The power resistors are mounted about 4mm off the PCB
- The PCB has a solid copper surface under the resistors to carry the heat away.

Tangles’ Pin Parts (TPP) are manufactured in Australia. Each board undergoes stringent quality control and a full system test. For most TPP parts, quality and test processes are performed on a test rig designed to measure and evaluate the boards operational performance under conditions equal to or exceeding that experienced in the pinball machine.
The original 10 Opto board part comes in two sizes. The A-18159 (A-20246) has metal brackets riveted to the board so the board can be mounted vertically. The A-15430 board is mounted with 4 plastic spacers and sits flat against the underside of the playfield.

Installation Instructions
Flat Mount Installation
Show below is the TPP-1021 being prepared for installation into a BSD machine. Push the 4 supplied nylon mounting posts into the board mounting holes.
The TPP-1021 installs under the playfield using the same screws and mounting holes as the original board.
Return all 6 connectors to their appropriate places using the missing locator pins to help identify which plug goes where. ( Your wiring harness connectors will have blind plug stoppers so you cannot install the plugs the wrong way)
When installation is complete, perform a switch test and verify the appropriate opto-switches are working.
Vertical Mount
Original part A-18159 has two metal brackets to mount the PCB board in a vertical orientation from the under playfield. The replacement board TPP-1021W is designed with the appropriate mounting hole so it can attach to your existing metal brackets.
The metal brackets will need to be removed from the old A-18159 board. This is best done with a 3.5mm drill to remove the old rivets.
When the brackets have been removed from the old board, they may be attached to the TPP-1021W using the supplied screws.
